BENDER’S JOURNEY

ADAM: Bender enters Sherman High defiantly, striding head-on, as if on a collision course with the high school’s bricks and mortar. He exits in a similarly rebellious fashion, veering left while the others go right, since no car, no parent, is waiting to drive him home. We get the sense that he can go anywhere he wants to—but isn’t that nowhere? A rebel at heart, Bender fancies himself beholden to neither authority nor routine, but that leaves him a perpetual outsider. If he doesn’t return to the school on Monday, he’ll effectively disappear.
